Herbal Foods & Remedies

For a little more than 15 years I have been growing, harvesting, and using both culinary and medicinal herbs.  My love affair with herbs was the catalyst for just about everything I do in the kitchen now.  The passion that I have for food and cooking literally started with my hands in the soil and then, by learning how to use the plants that I had brought to life in both medicinal and culinary preparations. While I have become proficient in the use of culinary herbs over the last 15 years, I never fully got a grasp on the preparation and use of medicinal herbs beyond making herbal teas and even this I have not done enough of over the years.

Several months ago I decided that I really wanted to focus on learning the art of using plants as medicine and to integrate that knowlege into the preparation of medicinal products and foods. With that in mind I started researching all of the different avenues available for me to do an in depth study of herbalism. I am very pleased to say that I found a great distance learning program offered by The Herbal Academy of New England.  I am about two and a half months into the course of study that I chose to take with them and not only have I learned a great deal already but it has completely changed the way I look at and think about all plants and the many uses of them.

I am so very excited to be able to share my experience and knowledge with you as I continue on this journey of learning the ancient art of herbalism.  I will be sharing many of my experiments with the various herbal remedies, foods and products that I will be working on as part of my studies.  Check back in with us soon to learn how to make an amazing elderberry syrup and to see how our very first brew of herbal ale is coming along!
